Snapchat is set to roll out innovative artificial intuitive functionalities crafted to elevate user engagement and empower creators. During the recent Snap Partner Summit, the platform unveiled plans for an AI-driven video generation tool aimed specifically at its creator community. This new feature will enable users to create videos using text and image prompts, with all AI-produced content marked by a watermark to distinguish it from traditional videos.
The social media platform elaborated on these advancements through an official announcement. Highlighted as one of the most intriguing features, the AI Video tool, named Snap AI Video, will cater solely to creators on Snapchat. To qualify as a Creator, users must maintain a public profile, frequently share content through their Stories and Spotlight, and cultivate a significant following.
This new tool functions similarly to existing AI video generators, utilizing text inputs to generate videos. Snapchat has also indicated that soon, creators will have the capability to produce videos based on image prompts. Currently, this feature has been introduced in a trial phase online for a short duration number of creators.
A representative from the company informed TechCrunch that the AI capabilities stem from Snapchat's in-house foundational video models. Once the feature is rolled out to a broader audience, the platform intends to implement icons and context cards that indicate when a Snap has been created using AI. A distinct watermark will also remain visible on such content, even if it is downloaded or shared.
The representative further confirmed that these video models have undergone thorough testing and assessment to ensure safety to prevent the generation of harmful material.
In addition, Snapchat has launched a new AI Lens that enables users to visualize themselves as older versions of themselves. For Snapchat+ subscribers, Snapchat Memories will now include support for AI-generated captions and Lenses. Moreover, My AI, Snapchat's built-in chatbot, is receiving updates that enhance its functionality and expand its capabilities.
Users are now able to tackle more sophisticated inquiries, decode parking signs, translate foreign menus, identify distinctive plants, and much more with My AI. Lastly, Snapchat is collaborating with OpenAI to provide developers who possess access to extensive multimodal language models, allowing the creation of additional Lenses that can recognize objects and offer contextual information.
